SVS-2000 to be Included in Development of Future Armored Vehicles
April 9, 2001

Portland, Ore., April 9 -iMove™, the leader in immersive spherical video, announced today that the Defence Research Establishment Suffield (DRES) has purchased the Spherical Video System 2000. The SVS-2000 is being included in Defense R&D; Canada’s Future Armored Vehicle Systems (FAVS) Technology Demonstration Project. The FAVS project supports the Canadian Forces definition of technology opportunities and requirements for mounted troops in the 2010-2020 timeframe.

“DRES explored all of the immersive video systems on the market, and found that the quality and flexibility of both the hardware and the software components of the SVS 2000 made our ambitious goals for this project achievable” stated Stephen Bogner, Technical Authority for the Immersive Imaging Laboratory at DRES. “DRES will use the iMove SVS-2000 immersive video system as a primary technology element to help demonstrate how Armoured Vehicle crews can achieve enhanced situational awareness on the future battlefield.”

The iMove SVS-2000 is an all-digital, 6-lens camera that captures images in all directions including up and down. The added field of view creates a feeling of total immersion, not available in other panoramic formats. In playback, users are able to move forward and backward through the video, at any point looking in any direction.

“iMove is excited about the opportunity to work with a leader in immersive imaging on armored vehicles, stated Kermit Yensen, CEO. “The ability to immerse soldiers in an environment without putting them in harms way is an example of how spherical video can enhance both battlefield effectiveness and troop safety.”
